Deven Olsen is lost, looking for home, after being kicked out of her Mom’s house in Denver. She goes back to her childhood home to live with her brother, Brad, and start over. Hudson Slade is medically retired from the Army, sooner than his timeline projected, and returning home after being away. He doesn’t know what he wants to do however, Hudson does know that the decisions he makes from now on won’t be controlled by the Army or even his older brothers as it is time to make his own path in life. After running, literally, into his childhood best friend, Brad Olsen, Hudson now has a place to live and a roommate. Never did he imagine that the beautiful girl from the bar, is Deven Olsen, his new roommate’s little sister. The one person that Hudson is forbidden to touch, a promise he made with Brad. Hudson knows he is betraying his friend however, he cannot get Deven out of his head. How can he keep his best friend and be with Deven too?
My Best Friend’s Sister is a forbidden romance, which just happens to be one of the tropes I am most fond of. I fell for Hudson, whether it was because of the uniform I can neither confirm nor deny. He is a guy that has always done the right thing, struggles with putting himself first, and is steadfast. I can relate to that on so many levels!
Deven was rebellious in the past yet throughout the book you see her transform into an honest and humble woman. As I was reading, I could see their relationship in front of me play out, due to it’s authenticity. The banter, the attraction, the heartache, and the love were floating around my room as I devoured this book making me feel the emotions of the characters. This is the first book of Alexis Winter’s that I have read, and I want to dive into the Slade Brothers Series now. I can’t wait to feel all their stories!!!
I did get this as an advanced reader copy from the author for an honest review. I have no affiliations with Amazon, and I am do not receive any compensation for my reviews.
