Forbidden love has never looked like this, unless you are me, and read The Thorn Birds. A gorgeous broody Irish man will always be my downfall, add dark hair, beard and knowing he’s forbidden; it makes the challenge that more interesting and the desire that much hotter. Sara Cate couldn’t write a better story for me to relate to!
Cadence is a semi-naïve American who lives her life one adventure at a time, never ending boyfriends and parties. When she is left by her friends at a B&B on the Irish Coast, she is forced to make some hard decisions about her life. I have to say, Ireland is the perfect place to re-evaluate your life, with its charm, scenery, and lore. When Cadence’s life takes a major turn because of “in the moment” decision making, it leaves her shocked beyond belief. I relate to Cadence because after the shock wore off, she immediately started planning and implementing that plan. When she meets Callum, she finds him unsettling, disagreeable, and stoic. As she starts to look past Callum’s rough exterior, she starts to see her first impressions could not be more wrong. Cadence really grows into the woman she wants to be through the novel.
Callum is a handsome, rough around the edges, Irish man that I could dream about for years. Owner of the B&B, he works non-stop repairing the old property and taking care of his horse, not to mention his congregation. As a Priest, Callum’s work is never done in his community. From homilies to budgets, being the only Priest in town has its drawbacks. When Callum spots Cadence, something inside of him stirs that he hasn’t felt in forever. As Callum fights an internal battle between God and love, we see him become more relatable, more human, and more of a man than that of the cloth.
I cannot recommend Beautiful Sinner enough and for so many reasons. First, I know people have a lot to say about men of the Church, but remember they are still men and capable of sinning, just like you and I. This is beautifully written, showing Callum’s internal struggles with his heart and vocation. Sometimes, we may choose the path what was meant for us in that season of our life, then the season could change out of nowhere showing us a new path. Second, I love the growth of both Callum and Cadence through the book, as they grow independently and together. The transformations are important to witness as it gives us more understanding of each character’s depth and makes them more relatable. Third, you will not be able to put this down!!! I could not get enough and honestly, I want more!! I want more of Ireland, the B&B, the forbidden age-gap romance, and the steamy scenes! If you can only buy a few books for October reading, make this the first one you buy; I promise you will not be disappointed!!!! Sara Cate, thank you so much for this story, this is not only paperback worthy, I will be revisiting Cadence and Callum’s story again and again!!!
